EXTREME WEATHER
Extreme weather is reducing across the world
We often hear that extreme weather is increasing and that this is being caused by our greenhouse gas emissions. But that is wrong. As the world gradually warms, you would expect extreme weather to decrease, not increase. After all, temperatures are forecast to rise most in high latitudes, thereby reducing the temperature difference between the Arctic and more temperate regions. Since it is this temperature difference that drives weather, a warming world is a more tranquil world.
Indeed, the best database of its kind in the world, the extreme weather records for American states maintained by the American government, shows that most records were set in the first half of the 20th century, not recently.
